Nutrition and Dietetics

The aim of the Master’s program in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Haliç University Graduate School of Health Sciences is to educate nutritionists who are active in different branches of nutrition science, which is developing at a rapid pace today, and who are specialized by following innovations in science and technology. 


The Department of Midwifery has launched its four year undergraduate academic programs in the 2007-2008 academic year at the Graduate School of Health Sciences. Female students, who have graduated from high school or equivalent and achieved a high numerical score in the University Entrance Examination by the Council of Higher Education, are accepted to the department. Successful students who complete their undergraduate education would obtain the title “MIDWIFE” upon their graduation.

    According to World Health Organization’s (WHO) definition; Midwife is, “a professional who works in partnership with women to give the necessary support, care and advice during pregnancy, labor and the postpartum period, to conduct births on the midwife’s own responsibility and to provide care for the newborn and the infant.”

      The aim of the Department of Midwifery is to educate midwives, who would provide health care for the newborn and the mother, the family and society, give the necessary care and advice during pregnancy, labor and the postpartum period, conduct births on her own responsibility, conduct scientific research in order to contribute to the professional development, and who have developed problem solving skills, knowledge, and attitudes to be able to offer substantial midwifery service to the community, with a free and scientific way of thinking and global vision.

     Our graduates of the Midwifery Department would adopt a holistic approach in health care, utilize their communication skills in the best way, take an active role in the studies, improve health services by being aware of the importance of protecting health and maintaining goodness during illness, patient rights and equality in health services for everybody.

   The Goals of the Midwifery Department are to educate midwives, who;

do the necessary checks for the pregnancy diagnosis,
give prenatal care and support for the mother and fetus,
perform normal delivery,
perform episiotomy where necessary during normal delivery,
give mother care during pregnancy, watch the fetus and determine aberrations,
remove and control the placenta manually, and check the uterus where necessary,
engage in the work of early diagnosis of pregnancies at risk and advise the mother,
deliver breech birth in case of emergency,
identify abnormalities for the mother and newborn,
support and monitor newborn,
support and monitor the mother during the post-partum period,
diagnose risk after labor and refer the mother,
participate in family planning practices and give training.

Graduates of Midwifery are permitted to work at;

Primary Health Care (PHC) Centers, Maternal and infant health centers

1. Birth and family planning clinics in public hospitals,
2. Birth and family planning clinics in private hospitals,
3. Private practice

They could also;

4. Undertake an academic career. In doing so, they could become faculty members in the midwifery departments of Graduate Schools of Nursing and Health Sciences.
5. They could continue with a Master’s or PhD studies.
